Hoo Roo is a way of saying hello and goodbye between friends and family in Australia.
Hoo Roo Foods (formerly Hoo Roo Tea) was started in December of 2003 by Chris Muir and Jen Ruggins. Working with its parent company, Hoo Roo Outback in Australia, the idea was to expose North Americans to gourmet Australian products. Hoo Roo Foods acts as a market researcher on the ground and is a consultant, representative and distributor for Hoo Roo Outback. Both companies work closely with the Australian government (Austrade) which also has the goal of North Americans having consistent and reliable access to quality Australian products. Initially the companies specialized in teas but have since expanded to new areas of the food and beverage categories. Australia, due to its location has so much to offer the world in the areas of food and beverage. The owners of Hoo Roo feel privileged to be a service from which North Americans can access and experience Australia’s unique, abundant and varied flavors.
The Hoo Roo Companies are a family collaboration that span from Canada to Australia. Here in Canada, Jen’s brother Jamie designed the website, Jen’s stepfather Ron designed the logo and has done much of the graphic designing along with Jen’s mother Cathy. In Australia, Chris’ parents Ian and Sandra run Hoo Roo Outback.
Most of the photography on this website is a collection of Australian images taken by people in or near Chris’ home town of Winton, Queensland, about 2000 km west of Brisbane in the Australian Outback.
